Wheel size: Sprints/700C with brake drop of 50mm

Ko Zieleman was a Dutch framebuilder from Amsterdam who was regarded as one of the best Dutch framebulders – some details can be found at http://www.classical-bicycles.com/Dutch%20racing%20bikes.htm and there are some pictures and discussion in the bikeforums.net archives. This frame dating from the early 1980s is in excellent condition and has had a good quality if uninspired repaint. It has some small marks but nothing which can’t be touched up. SOLD

RALEIGH COMPETITION ROAD FRAME 1983
Seat Tube (ctt): 24.5in (62cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22.5in (57cm)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: Sprints/700C with brake drop of 47mm
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
The Raleigh Competition frame was almost identical to the Team Replica; it had the same frame geometry, lugs and tubing but had Gipiemme dropouts in place of Campagnolo. This frame is in excellent condition with just a few small marks. An excellent buy at £125

HOLDSWORTH NUOVO RECORD ROAD FRAME c1981–2
Seat Tube (ctt): 24in (61cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22.5in (57cm)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: 27s or Sprints/700C with brake drop of 53mm
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
The Holdsworth Nuovo Record was described in the Holdsworth catalogue as a full race frame. This one is in very good to excellent condition; the paint has quite a number of marks but nothing too obtrusive and being black will touch up very easily. £125

TED GERRARD TRACK FRAME 1961
Seat Tube (ctt): 21in (53cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 21.5in (55cm)
Rear dropout width: 120mm
Wheel size: 700C/sprints with brake drop of 54mm
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
The is a very nice Ted Gerrard road track frame from 1961. Ted Gerrard’s shop was in the same premises where Shorters are now in Woodhouse Lane, Finchley. This frame had had a stuck seatpost which somebody had tried to pry out with a screwdriver and split the back of the seat tube – I’ve had a new 531 seat tube put in and the frame just needs painting. Its a really nicely made frame possibly from Wally Green’s workshop in Colindale/Hendon. SOLD

F W EVANS TOURING FRAME c1980
Seat Tube (ctt): 22,5in (57cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22in (56cm)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: 27s or Sprints/700C with brake drop of 67mm
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
This F W Evans touring frame from around 1980 is in very useable condition – however the paint is really rather tatty. The frame is however undented and straight. Richard Ballantine’s hugely popular and influential Bicycle Book from the 1970s in one of its editions featured a black Evans frame on its cover. SOLD

BSA GOLD MEDALFRAME c1937 Reynolds 531
Seat Tube (ctt): 22in (56cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22in (56cm)
Rear dropout width: 110mm
Wheel size: 26s or Sprints/700C with brake drop of 53mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531
BSA offered a good variety of quality frames in the 1930s – this one is the Gold Medal with the optional full chaincase is not a full on roadster but a clubman’s frame built from Reynolds 531 with a chaincase. It comes complete with the correct BSA headclip, chain, chaincase, and BSA handlebar stem. The roller on the seat tube is for a hub gear control wire. Its in very sound and useable condition but the paintwork is a bit tatty. £95

CLAUD BUTLER MASSED START FRAME 1952 model built Sept 1951
Seat Tube (ctt): 23in (58cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22in (56cm)
Rear dropout width: 115mm
Wheel size: 27s or Sprints/700C with brake drop of 60mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
This Claud Butler Massed Start frame was made in September 1951 according to the frame number but is according to the catalogue a 1952 model – the finned straight seatstay bridge is a unique feature to that model for the 1952 year as are the Agrati dropouts for Simplex gear. The frame is in very sound unmolested condition but obviously needs a sympathetic repaint. I have the original Agrati chainset and Simplex TDF front gear available at extra cost and have suitable Simplex rear gears… It comes complete with the Agrati bottom bracket and headset per specification. £125

ELLIS BRIGGS ROAD FRAME 1980s
Seat Tube (ctt): 20.75in (52.5cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 21.5in (55cm)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: Sprints/700C with brake drop of 54mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame number: 6034
This Ellis Briggs road frame dates from the later 1980s – its in very sound condition but the paint has quite a number of marks. Carefully touched up and once built up the marks would not be too obtrusive. Ellis Briggs frames are beautifully crafted and very consistent in their quality – Doug Fattic, one of the top US framebuilders trained there in the 1970s. £145

RALEIGH RECORD ACE c1950
Seat Tube (ctt): 23.5in (59cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 23in (58cm)
Rear dropout width: 110mm
Wheel size: 27s or Sprints/700C with brake drop of 55mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
Seatpost size: 25.4mm
This Raleigh Record Ace frame dates from the 1948–50 period and was repainted many years ago and not used since. It has the correct headclip fittings and RRA light bracket (not shown in the photo). The paint has suffered a little in storage. Correct style RRA decals were not available then but are now from from Hlloydcycles.com It will build into a super bike. SOLD

HARRY QUINN ROAD FRAME
Seat Tube (ctt): 24in (61cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22.5in (57cm)
Rear dropout width: 120mm
Wheel size: 27s or Sprints/700C with brake drop of 65mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
Seatpost size: 27.0mm
Frame number: Q4
This is another older Harry Quinn frame – it has been repainted and I find it difficult to date – the Cyclo Benelux dropouts would suggest it might be older than the purple frame… The paint is in generally very good order with only a few marks. £165

SUNBEAM CLUBMAN’S FRAME c1938
Seat Tube (ctt): 21in (53cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22in (56cm)
Rear dropout width: 115mm
Wheel size: 26s or 700C/sprints with brake drop of 47mm
Seatpost size: 26.8mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds HM tubing
This Sunbeam dates from the time when AMC ran Sunbeam. It was one of their models designed for Clubman – it has a braze-on for a Cyclo Standard derailleur gear and the forks are built with Accles and Pollocks Rapid Taper fork blades which were very fashionable at the time. It has been nicely restored – the chrome plating has been very nicely redone and it has been repainted to a good standard. An opportunity to build a very nice late 30s Clubman’s machine. SOLD

RALEIGH RANDONNEUR TOURING FRAME 1990
Seat Tube (ctt): 21in (53cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22in (56cm)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: 700C with clearances for 35mm tyres and mudguards
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
This is one of the second series Raleigh Randonneur frames built from Reynolds 531ST tubing. The first series did not have cantilever brakes and the third series were built from from Reynolds 708 tubing with a 1 1/8in diameter top tube. This frame is New Old Stock and has never been used. I have carefully matched it to a suitable fork which is very similar to the original Raleigh fork. Argos Cycles could I think reasonably match its paint colour to the frame. Raleigh Randonneur touring of the second and third series were widely regarded and justifiably so for being one of the best off-the-peg touring frames available at the time. £145

WITCOMB ROAD FRAME 1974
Seat Tube (ctt): 23in (58cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 23in (58cm)
Rear dropout width: 124mm
Wheel size: Sprints/700C with brake drop of 48mm
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
This is a very unusual Witcomb road frame – its unlike any other Witcomb road frame I have seen but uses the some of the same Italian lugs as the Metro frames produced by Bill Philbrook for Youngs. The frame number though is a proper Witcomb number for 1974. I consulted Bryan Clarke who knows more about London framebuilders than I do and he was of the same opinion as myself that it is a Witcomb frame built probably by Bill Philbrook. It came with the Witcomb touring frame also listed on this page – that also appears to be likely to have been built by Bill Philbrook. The paint is in very good condition save for some cloudiness which appears to be between the lacquar and paint. This frame is built beautifully with clear lug shorelines and very neat brazing. For further information on Bill Philbrook frames see http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/builders/youngs-builders.html and on Witcomb http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/builders/witcomb.html £185

ORBIT HARRIER LIGHT TOURER AUDAX FRAME c1997
Seat Tube (ctt): 22in (56cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22in (56cm)
Rear dropout width: 130mm
Wheel size: 700C/sprints with brake drop of 55mm
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
The Orbit Harrier model was their light touring or Audax frame – over the years it was built by a number of different builders but this one I think was built by Venom who made a reputation in the 1990s for building superb tig welded frames. I am pretty certain these frames were built from Columbus frame tubing. This frame is in excellent condition save for some marks to the paint – this is generally sound and useable but could benefit from some careful touch-ups. It has fixings for racks front and rear and two sets of bottle cage braze-ons. Its built for Shimano’s deeper drop dual-pivot brakes with clearances for 32mm 700C tyres and guards. SOLD

RICK POWELL LO-PRO FRAME 1990
Seat Tube (ctt): 22.5in (57cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22.25in (56.5cm)
Rear dropout width: 128mm
Wheel size: Front 26in/650C rear: 700C/sprints
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531C
This is a rather nicely made lo-pro frame which was built by Rick Powell in March 1990... Rick Powell had learnt his frame building skills at the Carlton Raleigh lightweight unit at Worksop and left I believe when it moved to Nottingham in the early 1980s. Its painted in silver and has a few smallish scratches but is very useable as is. The dropouts are semi vertical. £120

BRIAN ROURKE ROAD FRAME 1970s
Seat Tube (ctt): 22.5in (57cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22.25in (56.5cm)
Rear dropout width: 124mm
Wheel size: 27s or 700C/sprints with brake drop of 60mm
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531
This Brian Rourke road frame dates from the 1970s and is I think one of their earliest road frames. Its in very good condition with no dents or dings and the paint is very useable. A slight puzzle is that it takes a 26.6mm seatpost – I’d expect it to take a 27.2mm but the frame does not feel any heavier than most Reynolds 531 double butted frames. £95

JACK TAYLOR WOMEN’S FRAME 1964
Seat Tube (ctt): 21in (53cm)
Top Tube (ctc): 22.5in (57cm)
Rear dropout width: 120mm
Wheel size: 27in
Frame tubing: Reynolds 531 double butted
Jack Taylor womens frames are not at all common. This one dating from 1964 needs a full renovation – the paint is in poor condition and one of the front cantilever brake pivots has broken off. £225
