There are three considerations when buying a bottom bracket:

BB threads – the common three are Italian (36 x 24T) and English/ British (1.37 x 24) and Raleigh not high end (1 3/8in x 26 . Less common ones are French (35 x 1), Swiss (35 x 1 but with LH threaded driveside cup) and Chater Lea (1.45in x 26).

Axle length – needs to suit chainset and to some extent the frame…

Taper dimensions JIS – most Shimano and far eastern made chainsets, ISO/Campag – most Campag and European.

IMPORTANT NOTES ON STRONGLIGHT & TA
Stronglight crankset and bottom bracket tapers are generally fair close to JIS standard – it is said that the Japanese copied Stronglight when making their first cotterless cranks… But they do vary a lot – perhaps as the result of being removed and replaced many times and also I think due to wide production tolerances.
Most pre–1990 Stronglight cranks will need around a 114mm axle for a single chainring, 118 or 120mm for double chainrings and 122–125mm for triple chainrings. Post-1990 chainsets use a variety of lengths.
Stronglight BBs come in different qualities – I just refer to them as 1st, 2nd or 3rd – the correct names are difficult to discern and even more difficult to understand!

TA crankset and bottom bracket tapers are also generally fair close to JIS standard but with a shorter taper. TA 5-pin cranksets need a 112mm axle for a single chainring, 115mm axle for double chainrings and 123–126mm for triple chainrings.
